On Tuesday, January 16, the Lady Eagles faced the Blair-Taylor Wildcats. Prior to the contest, Blair-Taylor was 3-2 in conference play, while Alma-Pepin was 2-4. The game started with four possessions of turnovers for both the Eagles and the Wildcats. The scoring battle began soon after. With 16 minutes left in the first half, Blair-Taylor was the first on the board. The teams both started in a two-three zone defense. The Eagles, however, extended their defence, with a full-court press. With five minutes left in the half, the Eagles gained the largest lead of the game- six points. Alma-Pepin continued their drive, extending their advantage to ten points. The Lady Eagles finished the first half still ahead, 33-21. Both teams stuck with their zone defence. The Eagles pursued their lead, having a ten-point or more advantage during the second half. The Wildcats didn’t give up though, as they brought the Eagles lead within three points. Alma-Pepin returned their lead to nine points with four minutes left in the game. Knowing the urgency to score, Blair-Taylor started fouling the Eagles. With the help of practice, Alma-Pepin made their free throws and kept the lead. The Eagles finished out the game-winning, 55-46.
On Friday, January 19, the Lady Eagles faced the Lady Norse of Whitehall, competing in their second conference matchup of the week. The Eagles and Norse had previously played each other in a nonconference game. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they fell just short of victory. Right from the start of the jump ball, Whitehall made a statement. They started the game by winning the tip-off and scoring immediately. The Eagles responded; they came down the court and finished an easy layup. Alma-Pepin set up their full-court press into a 2-3 zone defence, while Whitehall played man-to-man defence. The Norse and the Eagles had a sea-saw battle of scoring. Whoever had the lead, never gained more than five points. With only 10 minutes left in the half, the score was 14-11, Whitehall in the lead. The Eagles started fouling the Norse more. Whitehall was knocking down their free throws, putting them up 33-25 at halftime. Alma-Pepin knew they needed to continue scoring and locking their defence to win the game. The Lady Norse had other plans, every time the Eagles scored, they always had an answer back. This helped Whitehall keep their advantage over the Eagles. Alma-Pepin was never able to gain a big enough lead to defeat the Norse. Whitehall was victorious over the Eagles, 55-43.
