On Tuesday, February 6th, the Alma-Pepin Eagles girls basketball team faced the C-FC Pirates. C-FC was the first team to score. Alma-Pepin took the lead for a limited amount of time. The Pirates quickly took back their advantage. With the result of unforced turnovers from the Eagles and fast break points from the Pirates, C-FC took control of the game. The Pirates quickly gained a 10-point lead on the Eagles. With 10 minutes left in the first half, C-FC was winning 14-4. Cochrane-Fountain City extended their lead into halftime winning, 35-12. The Pirates had three players record double-digit scoring. Led by senior, Emmalee Mann with 25 points, she was followed closely by her teammates Isabella Holzer with 20 points and Alexis Pronschinske with 18 points. Eagles Freshman, Macy Stewart lead her team with 12 points. Cochrane-Fountain City did not lose their momentum in the second half. The Eagles were never within 15 points of the Pirates. C-FC closed out the game 72-40.
Following the tough loss of C-FC, the Eagles had another tough conference play that same week. On Thursday the 8th, Alma-Pepin faced Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran. The Eagles started off hot right from the tip-off. Junior Finley Noll, came down the court and immediately swished a three-pointer to start the game. ECI instantly answered with a wide open two-point layup. Both teams constantly kept scoring; Alma-Pepin always had the lead. Immanuel tied the game up 15-15 with nine minutes left in the first half. The score of the game was see-sawing back and forth between teams. With a 7-0 run from the Eagles, Immanuel was forced to call a timeout. Alma-Pepin kept their lead into half-time, 40-29. Eau Claire Immanuel didn’t let the scoring deficit stop their momentum. Immanuel brought the lead within four points of the Eagles. With the help of free throws, Alma-Pepin gained their lead back; they finished the game strong, winning 64-47.
