On Wednesday, May 22 nd , the Alma-Pepin Eagles golf team competed at Trempealeau

Mountain Golf Course. With wind gusts around 30 mph, the Eagles had a hard time taking

flight. With this Regional being one of the toughest in the state, the Eagles needed to play well

in order to advance in tournament play. But starting off with one of their worst nine-hole

rounds of the year with a 198, the Eagles dug a hole that was too hard to climb out of. On the

second nine, Alma-Pepin shot a 173, for a total of 371. This left the Eagles six shots out of

qualifying for sectionals as a team.

Winning the Regional was Durand with a 332, followed by C-FC with a 341, LaCrosse Aquinas

with a 353 and Onalaska Luther with a 365. Regional medalist was Cameron Lipinski of C-FC

with a round of 76.

However, the Eagles did have two individuals qualify for sectionals. Keegan Stiehl earned the

second spot with an 87. In first and third positions were Nic Ellis with an 80 and Garrett

Gullicksrud with an 88, both from Eleva-Strum. The fourth and final spot went to Anders

Johansen of the Eagles, who shot a 90 and won in a two-person playoff with a tap in par on the

second playoff hole.

Even though they fell short at regionals, the Eagles had a great season. They finished second in

the conference overall. They also had two Eagles finish with First Team All-Conference honors:

Keegan Stiehl and Trenton Krzoska. The Eagles set school records at 9-hole meets in Cochrane

with a 166 and Wabasha with a 179, as well as the 18-hole conference meet at Trempealeau

Mountain with a 341. Letter winners on this team were Seniors Keegan Stiehl and Madox

Stewart, Junior Ridge Lodermeier, Sophmores Trenton Krzoska and Liz Graner and Freshmen

Anders Johansen and Wil Jumbeck. Team awards went to Keegan Stiehl as team medalist,

Ridge Lodermeier as most improved and Trenton Krzoska with the team spirit award.

Keegan and Anders will be competing in Sectional play on Wednesday, May 29 th at the highly

rated Lawsonia Golf Course near Green Lake, Wisconsin. Good Luck Eagles!
