students

On Wednesday, November 13, eleven Alma and Pepin students toured Gundersen St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, MN. The tour, led by Brenda Creighton (Human Resources) and Mandy Edelbach (Community Relations and Marketing Coordinator), lasted about an hour, showing all the different aspects of healthcare that are offered at their facility. The kids saw radiology, laboratory, dietary, physical therapy, nursing departments, and the clinic.

Some of the departments put together hands-on activities for the students to partake in. The physical therapy department created a little obstacle course for the kids to quickly navigate, showcasing some of the activities they use with physical therapy patients. Once finished with their tour, the students could practice their nursing skills and had the opportunity to brush each other's teeth, feed each other, and move a student from a wheelchair into a Sara-Steady, which is a non-mechanical lift that is commonly used with patients who have trouble walking.
