On Monday, January 6th, the Lady Eagles basketball team took on the Melrose Mindoro Mustangs on Alma’s home turf. Because the game was very physical, Alma-Pepin starter, Finley Noll, got injured during the first possession. The Mustangs started strong, gaining a six-point lead within three minutes. With turnovers and a bigger scoring deficit, the Eagles were forced to call a timeout. The Eagles slowly chipped away at the difference but never had enough stride to tie the game. The Mustangs led the half, 24-17. Eagle’s senior, Allidah Luff, led the team with 18 points, while Macy Stewart recorded nine rebounds.
The Mustangs, led by Anna Radcliffe, kept the same intensity level during the second half. Scoring off of transition points, Melrose gained a ten-point lead. Mel-Min never let Alma-Pepin close the lead within eight points throughout the second half. Melrose finished the game 58-45 by handing the Eagles another conference loss, leaving them with a record of 6-6.
