Alma Pepin Eagles fought hard in a Dairyland matchup against the Immanuel Lancers to come up short.
On February 24, the Eagles traveled to Eau Claire for a conference match up. Even with a few key players out sick for the Eagles, Mason Westberg kept the game exciting with 20 points. Breckin Hullopeter, also recovering from an illness, was the second leading scorer with 16 points. The Lancers were the first on the board with a three pointer from Logan Thompson. The Eagles were quick to respond with a two pointer from Owen Post. The Lancers gained a quick lead with 14 minutes left, prompting the Eagles to take a timeout. Owen Post ended the Eagles drought with a quick two-pointer. The Lancers extended their lead to 13 points. The two teams kept battling, but the Eagles could never close the gap within 11. The Lancers went into halftime ahead, 36-22.
Starting strong in the second half, Alma-Pepin was first to score. The Eagles were on a roll; they brought the game within six points. Eau Claire kept their momentum and grew their lead back to ten points. Lancer’s senior, number 23 Logan Thompson, capitalized on every opportunity given. Logan finished the game with an astonishing 33 points- five three-point shots, and 14 rebounds. Logan and the Lancers continued to play amazing basketball with strong moves, and dominating defense. Until the final buzzer, both teams played tough. The Lancers finished strong 60-67.
