Young Leaders Donate to Alma Area Schools Recently two Alma Elementary Students, Rilynn (Gr 5) and Jayce (Gr 3) Ganz, daughters of Donny and Jacinda Ganz, spent many hours of hard work to better the Alma Area Schools. The two girls picked pumpkins in a patch near their home, and then sold them on a cool Saturday morning outside of their parents' new floral shop, Vintage Floral which will open soon. While mom and dad were busy inside the shop, the girls were outside selling their pumpkins. In total, the girls donated $351 to the school. Rilynn and Jayce are the epitome of servant leaders and are very proud of their work that will benefit the school. They are hoping that their donation will help purchase new playground equipment or assist in financing a field trip. Rilynn and Jayce would recommend being involved in a service project because it makes you feel good, and according to Rilynn, it can also be fun.. ‘like when I was driving the side by side’. THANK YOU Rilynn and Jayce!!

Eagles Flag Football Ends Another Impactful Season Flag football has opened the door to thousands of kids across America and has given them the opportunity to learn the great sport of football. For the past five years, the Alma-Pepin Eagles have joined forces to create yet another competitive team. It consists of three co-ed teams for the third and fourth-grade division and another three teams for the fifth through sixth-grade division. The Eagles have more than 50 players on their entire team! No sport is without rules, and Flag Football is no exception. Flag football is a five-on-five game with two 12-minute halves. The team starts with the ball on the 40-yard line. Once the team advances to the 20-yard line, it's a first down. Rather than tackling, they pull flags to determine if the player is down. Flag football relies heavily on parent involvement and volunteers. Due to the continuous success of the Eagles Varsity Football program, many young Eagles aspire to become a varsity football player. Without the coaches and volunteers continuous hard work and dedication, the Eagles football program would not be what it is today. The Eagles are coached by volunteers Bob Jumbeck, Chad Traun, Brad Noel, Scott Noll, Reuben Syfeirt, Josh Sterry, and many others. Just like varsity football, these players have stats and positions too. Playing defense, quarterback, and wide receiver, Magnus Noll says, “Flag Football is fun and easy.” Magnus is proof that Flag Football has become a terrific feeder program to our varsity sports. He has one touchdown and three interceptions this year. Another player, Finleigh Kosik states, "Flag football is really fun and intense." Finleigh plays wide receiver, center, and running back. She has one touchdown this season and has had at least 20 flags pulled. In each game, which happens almost every Thursday, 16-20 teams show up to play. At the end of each season, the West League and the East League come together to play a final tournament. The West League consists of Durand, Elmwood-Plum City, Alma-Pepin, Wabasha, and Lake City, while the East League consists of Stanley-Boyd, Thorp, Abbotsford, Greenwood, Loyal, Owen-Withee, and Colby. The final tournament for the season was held on Saturday, October 14th, at Regis High School. Written by Trenton Krzoska

The Lady Eagles' Last Conference Match of the Season After an exciting game on Tuesday, October 10, the Eagles' volleyball team was ready to finish their conference games strong against Melrose Mindoro. In honor of it being Melrose's senior night, their head coach, David Waraxa, decided to start and play all his seniors for the first set. The Eagles were dominant in the first set, as they conquered the Mustangs 25-11. The Eagles kept swinging, with two players recording double-digit kills, and three others coming very close. In the second set, the Mustangs returned to their normal lineup, but this didn't stop Alma-Pepin's momentum. Although this match was much closer than the first, the Eagles still won 25-23. The third set was similar to the second, with both the Mustangs and the Eagles having to fight for every point. Unlike the second set, the outcome was different, as Melrose beat the Eagles 25-24 in the third set, extending the game. Alma-Pepin's defense was marvelous, with four Eagle athletes recording double digits for digs. The fourth set went back and forth between points until the end, going beyond the regular limit of 25. The Eagles finally closed out the game, winning the last set 29-27. The Eagles were pleased with their performance in conference play and are excited to see what the playoffs will bring. Alma-Pepin is overjoyed to secure the eighth seed, ensuring them a home game for the first round of the playoffs. They will face the Loyal Greyhounds next Tuesday in Alma.

Alma FFA goes on an expedition to the World Dairy Expo in Madison The World Dairy Expo is a gathering for dairy and agriculture industries. This event units farmers, producers, and agricultural enthusiasts together. The World Dairy Expo provides knowledge, innovation, and networking to intrigued students captivated by the works of agriculture. The World Dairy Expo recently left a mark on six of our members of the Alma FFA. Spanning over several days, The World Dairy Expo, located in Madison showcases the latest advancements in the dairy industry as well as learning experiences for the future generation of agriculture. This educational extravaganza served as a platform for students to learn about agriculture, the dairy industry, and the role these industries play in the world of production. The World Dairy Expo offers a diverse array of vendors representing agricultural brands, but they are more than just exhibitors. It is a group of educators ready to enhance students' grasp on agriculture. Students had experts with information right at their fingertips. From cutting-edge farm equipment to the latest dairy technologies there was plenty of room for strengthening their knowledge. Industry experts helped students gain insight on the latest trends. This learning experience not only helped strengthen the Alma’s FFA knowledge but also helped them gain a better understanding about the world around us. Hands-on experiences like this help students recognize the complexity of dairy production and the dedication required to maintain the high standard of the industry. As FFA members leave the expo they are instilled with knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the dairy industry. The Alma FFA is proud to have this eye-opening experience that deepens their understanding of agriculture and dairy production. Diverse vendors, educational opportunities, free cartons of milk, and connections made with fellow FFA members are all examples of the invaluable takeaways from this remarkable event. The Alma FFA left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to the future of agriculture, knowing we are part of a community dedicated to feeding the world.
