Student of the Week
Our lucky winner for Student of the Week is seventh grader, Riley Weaver. Riley lives with his two parents Wes and Terra along with his older brother Gavin, who also attends Alma. After school, Riley spends his time participating in extracurricular activities such as basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring, and football in the fall. Not only is basketball Riley’s favorite sport, but his biggest role model is The Golden State Warriors’ point guard, Stephen Curry. His favorite activity outside of school is shopping with his mom. Riley’s favorite part, and also his most dreaded, is always having to push the cart for her. Riley loves it at Alma. His favorite thing here at Alma would be all the people he’s met here, especially his friends. Riley is so fond of Alma, he doesn’t have anything he would want to change about it. Riley may be a little biased, but his favorite teacher is Mrs. Glander. Riley has a very close relationship with our 6th-grade teacher because she is also his aunt! We want to congratulate Riley on being our student of the week! Keep up the good work.

Congratulations to senior Claire Goeldner of the Alma High School Band for being selected to participate in the UW-Eau Claire Honors Band on Saturday, November 4. Claire was selected to sit first chair in the top ensemble and spent the entire day at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire rehearsing with some of the finest musicians in the area. Dr. John Stewart, director of bands at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, had the honor of directing this talented ensemble. Congratulations Claire on this amazing accomplishment!
On November 10th, Alma schools joined with Pepin students and staff to create a Veteran's Day Program. As in years past, Curtis Noll led the presentation to honor our local veterans. The program started off with Ashley Bartelt leading the Pledge of Allegiance, and Curtis Noll acknowledging the Quilt of Valor recipients. The Alma-Pepin Band and Choir followed with the Salute and the National Anthem. At the end of the program, all the veterans had a brunch served by the AHS Student Council and National Honor Society.
On Friday, November 10, the Alma-Pepin High School Band performed for the Veteran's Day Program held at Alma High School. The band paid tribute to all five branches of the military with the "Salute to America's Finest," which is always a favorite of our Veterans. They concluded the program with the National Anthem and Taps. Pictured here are seniors Ashton Radatz of Alma and John Juliot of Pepin, who performed Taps. Congrats to the All-Conference players
The American Legion Post 224 and its Auxiliary will be holding their annual Veterans Day Program at the Alma Area Schools on Friday, Nov. 10, beginning at 9:00 a.m. This event is held in the old gymnasium and is open to the public free of charge. The program will be also attended by the Grade 7-12 students of the Pepin School District and the Grade 4-12 students of the Alma School District.

This Week we traveled down to the 2nd-grade classroom of Mrs. Brecka to congratulate Dominik Traun, who is our next student of the week. Dominik, also known as Dom, lives in Nelson with his parents Haylie and Chad. Dominik celebrates his birthday on September 30th and is eight years old. Dom is very active in sports, as well as other activities. Outside of school, he loves playing football in his Quarterback position and riding his 4-wheeler. At school, Dom enjoys the chicken that is served at lunch, and his favorite snack is Skittles. After school, Dom cannot wait to get home to his two dogs, Koa and Ivy. Along with the two dogs Dom and his family also have three horses. Congrats again to Dominik Traun on being selected as Student of the Week.
2nd Graders had some special visitors. Alma Fire Chief Tom Brakke and Firefighter Joey Wick came to talk about fire safety. They reminded us about how to get out of our homes during a fire and what to do after we get out. We even got to try on a helmet and coat. Thanks so much for coming in!

American Education Week is celebrated during the 3rd full week in November. The Alma Elementary School invites you to celebrate with your special elementary school student on November 16. We have been learning about the "H Brothers" in 2nd Grade reading. Today Mrs. Brecka taught us how to play Candyland using these special words. We had a lot of fun playing and practicing our words. We can't wait to play it again! Learning is so much fun when you can play a game!

Wildlife Management Students Crank out Crankbaits
Students learned about the art of painting crankbaits in the Wildlife Management class last week. The Sophomores and Juniors had the choice of painting different kinds of lures. The lures of choice were a crankbait, jerkbait or lipless crankbait. They used their creative imagination to paint their desired bait. Ms. Jumbeck, the wildlife management teacher, bought the hooks, swivels, and crankbait bodies for each of the students. Once they got done painting the lures, they learned how to attach swivels and hooks to their lure. Finally, they sprayed the lures with reflective paint.

Student of the Week
Ridge Lodermeier has been elected for student of the week. Son of Tim and Karen Lodermeier, Ridge is a very enjoyable person to be around. He is a Junior at Alma High School. He likes Alma because the school is so small that it is very easy to get to know everyone. When Ridge was asked what was one thing he would change about the school, he said he would change the color of the school buses so they would be blue. He has many hobbies including golfing, fishing, and hunting. Golf is one of his favorite sports, and he has been on the Eagles golf team for two years. When he graduates highschool, he wants to go into the field of wildlife. Lastly, Ridge's biggest role model is his only brother, Nathan Lodermeier. Congratulations Ridge!
Eagles Flag Football Ends Another Impactful Season
Flag football has opened the door to thousands of kids across America and has given them the opportunity to learn the great sport of football. For the past five years, the Alma-Pepin Eagles have joined forces to create yet another competitive team. It consists of three co-ed teams for the third and fourth-grade division and another three teams for the fifth through sixth-grade division. The Eagles have more than 50 players on their entire team!
No sport is without rules, and Flag Football is no exception. Flag football is a five-on-five game with two 12-minute halves. The team starts with the ball on the 40-yard line. Once the team advances to the 20-yard line, it's a first down. Rather than tackling, they pull flags to determine if the player is down.
Flag football relies heavily on parent involvement and volunteers. Due to the continuous success of the Eagles Varsity Football program, many young Eagles aspire to become a varsity football player. Without the coaches and volunteers continuous hard work and dedication, the Eagles football program would not be what it is today. The Eagles are coached by volunteers Bob Jumbeck, Chad Traun, Brad Noel, Scott Noll, Reuben Syfeirt, Josh Sterry, and many others.
Just like varsity football, these players have stats and positions too. Playing defense, quarterback, and wide receiver, Magnus Noll says, “Flag Football is fun and easy.” Magnus is proof that Flag Football has become a terrific feeder program to our varsity sports. He has one touchdown and three interceptions this year. Another player, Finleigh Kosik states, "Flag football is really fun and intense." Finleigh plays wide receiver, center, and running back. She has one touchdown this season and has had at least 20 flags pulled.
In each game, which happens almost every Thursday, 16-20 teams show up to play. At the end of each season, the West League and the East League come together to play a final tournament. The West League consists of Durand, Elmwood-Plum City, Alma-Pepin, Wabasha, and Lake City, while the East League consists of Stanley-Boyd, Thorp, Abbotsford, Greenwood, Loyal, Owen-Withee, and Colby. The final tournament for the season was held on Saturday, October 14th, at Regis High School.
