Mrs. Dierauer, Alma School art instructor, brightens our hallways continuously with visual art projects. Some student groups may be developing fine motor skills. Others may be experimenting with an art medium. Overall, the students work hard on the products, and, as viewers, everyone in the Alma School hallway gets to enjoy the creativity.

Have a great week! GO EAGLES!
Holten Fernholz, a 5th grader at Alma Elementary, has been a key collaborator while exploring Sound Trap for the podcasting project . Holten really enjoys putting in the sound loops and, overall, the entire technical design process.
Three new faces joined the faculty and students at Alma Elementary School on January 11th. The Winona State students have begun a student teaching semester. Ms. Boland is in Mrs. Glander’s classroom, Ms. Lerass is in Mrs. Goeldner’s class room, and Mr. Arend is in Mrs. Brecka’s. Each aspiring teacher will introduce him/herself in our January newsletter.
"Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."
Thank you to these new leaders who will design learning experiences for our students. We welcome you to our team!
All after school activities for tonight, Thursday, January 14 have been canceled. This includes all practices, games and VEX.
Mrs. Glander's fifth grade science students are learning about rock layers and fossils. Mr. Oie brought some fossils in to share with the class.
Mrs. Brevick's 5th graders are preparing a podcast that informs listeners about the Civil Rights Movement. The 5th graders are connecting the movement and Martin Luther King Jr. with the novel they are currently reading called, "The Watsons Go to Birmingham."
Mrs. Rollbiecki shares from the B-4 classroom: "Second semester will bring many new adventures in the B4 classroom. We are "Operation Prepare for Kindergarten," and the students are here for it! Learning in the computer lab is an exciting time for these littles, and they are doing amazing! This week we are working on counting objects to 3. Who knows what next week will bring? Maybe we will start Physics!"
JV Eagles against Whitehall Norsemen (53-45 win for Eagles)
Mrs. Steinke's 1st grade class has been following sailing journey on the Mississippi River. Alex and Sam operate the 404 Coffee Shop in Pepin, Wisconsin in the summer. The couple embarked on a nearly 3,000 mile journey from Pepin, WI, to Key Largo, FL.
“We’re leaving from the Lake Pepin Marina, and we’ll take the upper Mississippi 767 miles from here to the Ohio River, and then the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, which is about another 300 miles, and then that dumps into the Mobile Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, then to South Florida,” De La Pena said.
The 1st graders connect through a live stream to ask the couple questions about the experience. Alex and Sam quickly and happily reply to the curious students.
You can find more about the couple's adventure at Sailing Rhapsody on Facebook and You Tube.

Mrs. Brecka's 2nd grade students make snow and then, of course, snow encourages the building of snowmen!
Miss Ruff and Mrs. Mikelson featured the kindergarteners' design on the December entry bulletin board. The theme was "Chillin' with my Snowmies." --Enjoy the precious snowman faces--
Mrs. Glander's 6th graders were studying the "design process" for engineering. The learning target was to design a balloon-powered car that was fast, safe, able to carry a lot, good looking , or to design a car with a combination of those features!
